Transition Houses and safe homes were established in the 1970’s by women’s groups across Canada for women experiencing abuse by their partners. Transition Houses became more than a safe place for a women to go, they were also the hub of a movement to change society’s attitudes towards family violence. This movement also put pressure on government for legal reform and stable funding for women centered services.
